The California Digital Library has joined SCOAP3 on behalf of the ten Campuses of UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz. These institutes become the first to join SCOAP3 in the United States.

The University of California stated: “We find the consortial funding model of SCOAP3 both intriguing and innovative and are impressed with the levelof support that SCOAP3 has been able to garner in Europe to date. Any proposal that holds out promise forplacing scholarly publishing on a more sustainable and open footing is a welcome development.”

The SCOAP3fund-raising is complete in 12 European countries, with more European countries expected to join soon.

Today, the fund-raising in the United States has started, and will be boosted by the SCOAP3 US Focal Meeting.
