The Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics (SCOAP³) proudly welcomes three new members: Chile, Estonia and Lithuania as new partner countries, further strengthening the global collective action to ensure sustained open access to research information in the discipline of high-energy physics (HEP).
Since 2014, SCOAP³ has served as the exemplary disciplinary model for open access, financially sustaining 11 of the leading journals for over a decade and providing full and immediate open access for well over 90% of the research articles published in high energy physics. Through this concerted collective action, SCOAP3 has transformed HEP research into a public good with no fees for readers or authors worldwide, establishing a globally equitable disciplinary research landscape. With the launch of SCOAP³ for Books in 2021, over 100 academic books (monographs and textbooks) in particle physics are now open access, further enriching teaching and scholarship worldwide.
With the recent accession of Chile, Estonia and Lithuania to the SCOAP³ community, this collective action has continued to go from strength to strength. As SCOAP³ enters this new chapter of growth and innovation, it reaffirms its commitment to its global community of stakeholders, and continued collaboration and shared dedication to the principles of open access.
According to Stefan Hohenegger (CNRS/France), Chair of the SCOAP3 Governing Council: “SCOAP3 demonstrates that through the power of global collaboration, collective action has helped to address systemic inequities in the research ecosystem. The growth of the SCOAP3 community with the recent addition of Chile, Estonia and Lithuania to the Consortium, further validates the power of collaborative solutions to enable and sustain equitable global open science.”
About SCOAP³: SCOAP³ is a one-of-its-kind partnership of over three thousand libraries, key funding agencies and research centers in 46 countries and 3 intergovernmental organizations. Working with leading publishers, SCOAP³ has converted key journals and books in the field of High-Energy Physics to open access at no cost for authors.
